TOURISTIC AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

Besancon, the region’s capital, resting on the meandering banks of the Doubs River, is protected by the Vauban Fortress, his most famous monument. Rich in museums, private mansions, old quarters and public gardens, it is also the departure point of many walks and amazing sites.

In the vicinity you will find the Arc-et-Senans royal salt-works, a registered UNESCO site, built by the 18th century architect Claude Nicolas LEDOUX .

To the south, the winding Loue valley is a little paradise rich in picturesque villages, such as Ornans: the city of the painter Gustave Courbet.

A few kilometers away, the silhouette of the chateau de Cleron reflects itself in the river, as the canoers and kayakers pass by…
